The nearest village is Oldemarkt and along the former Zuiderzeeroute  you 'll find the inviting village's Blokzijl en Blankenham, where guns and gun powder houses remain as only witnesses to the impending sea. 

A few kilometers away you'll find Giethoorn,  the "Venice of the North" and the fortified Steenwijk.
